A lot of people believe they want joint custody. In many cases, people believe that means a 50-50 split. That sort of arrangement is actually fairly unusual, although it is possible.
Parenting plans outline the amount of time each parent spends with the child. Typically, the majority of that time is spent with one parent. That is the parent that receives child support. The parenting plan then outlines the amount of time that the other parent, the one who pays child support, is to spend with the child.
